Restoring the Restoration

The Christian Church: What Went Wrong?

Well-meaning reformers have been trying to restore the church since the days of the Apostles. Robert surveys major restoration efforts across Christian history, from reform movements within Catholicism through the Protestant Reformation and into the American Restoration tradition.

The book examines figures and movements including George Fox, John Wesley, Methodists, Baptists, and the Stone-Campbell movement. Robert looks at both successes and failures, including the membership losses experienced by many Restoration churches in recent decades.

His central concern is practical: what can today's churches learn from the past, and how can Christians build strong worshiping communities that draw on the power of God in their lives?
